A micro-nation is sometimes considered a model country or a new country project. A micro-nation usually resembles an independent nation or state, but is not recognized by world governments or major international organizations. These nations often exist only on paper, on the Internet, or in the minds of their creators.

The micro-nation you choose is The Republic of Talossa. Here is there flag. You can find everything you want to know that is not on this page at talossa.com.

We Talossans hereby declare that we are a free people and a free community and, above all, a free nation dedicated to Talossan ideals. —Proclamation of Independence, 1 June 2004

BACKGROUND

The Republic of Talossa is a small nation, both in area and in population. The Republic of Talossa seceded from the original Kingdom of Talossa on June 1, 2004. The original Kingdom of Talossa still exists today and was founded as the project of one man, Robert Ben Madison, on December 26, 1979, a day still celebrated in the Republic today as Foundation Day, one of our most important public holidays.

The original Talossa was founded as a kingdom on December 26, 1979 by Robert Ben Madison, a 13-year-old in Milwaukee, after his mother died. At that time the kingdom occupied Madison's bedroom, and he adopted the name "Talossa" for it after discovering that the word means "inside the house" in Finnish. Over the years, Talossa's has expanded from Madison's childhood bedroom to include most of Milwaukee's East Side, as well as the French island of Cézembre and a large chunk of Antarctica (called Pengopäts, which means Penguin-land in the Talossan language).

GEOGRAPHY

Talossa's territory consists of areas of the east of the Unites States city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, together with the island of Cezembre, off the coast of Brittany.
Talossa lies along the shores of the Talossan Sea near the meeting points of three rivers: the Menomonee, the Kinnickinnic and the Milwaukee. It is crossed by US Interstate 43 and Interstate 94, which come together downtown.

POPULATION
The Talossan population is presently made up of more than twenty adult citizens from all over the world, brought together by their love of Talossan culture and their shared rights and duties as Talossan citizens.

LANGUAGE
The crowning jewel of Talossan culture is el ghleþ ("the tongue"), the Talossan national language. It is a speculative derivation from the Romance language as it would have been spoken in North Africa before the Arab conquest in the 6th century. It is closely related to Spanish and French, but it has other influences.

GOVERNMENT

Talossa has a semi-presidential system of government, with two main leaders. First, there is a directly-elected President as head of state. The actual head of government, though is known as the Seneschal or prime minister. The Seneschal is the leader of the party that can command a majority of seats in our national parliament, the Chamber of Deputies. A parliament is like a group of delegates that make laws and other decisions for a country.
